"The Sly" Security System

finds and ejects unwanted people in your parcel. Wherever they are.
LOW Industries - The Sly Security System

Features

  • ‘The Sly’ the Security System is made of two devices: the Cam and the Cube.
  • The Cam detects the intruders in a set area.
  • The Cube ejects the intruders detected by the Cams.
  • At least a set of ‘The Sly’ the Security System is needed for each parcel to scan.
  • You can place as many Security Cam as you want: each of them can be configured in a different way from the other.
  • All the Security Cams will automatically connect to the Security Cube in the same parcel.
  • You can create a white list and a black list for each Security Cam, to reserve areas for different groups in the same parcel.
  • The Security Cam can be set to scan a custom-sized area. A single Cam can scan the whole parcel and the sky above.
  • You can choose the timer used by the Security Cam to scan the restricted area.
  • You can choose if the Security System has to warn the intruders before ejecting them. You can also write your own warning message.
  • You can choose if you want to receive a message every time someone is ejected.
  • You can assign up to 3 managers to each Security Cam: they will be able to turn the Cam on/off and edit the names in the black and the white list.
  • A quick menu allows you and the managers to whitelist or instantly eject the detected intruders.
  • You can select a ‘safe group’: its members won’t be ejected by the Security System.
  • You can choose whether you want to eject people to their home location or to the nearest parcel.
  • New guests can enter a secret passcode to be automatically added to the white list of the Cam.
  • You can choose if you want to ban from your land the ejected avatars. The ban can be temporary or permanent.
  • You can set an age limit, to prevent new avatars to access your private areas.
  • ‘The Sly’ Security System can be connected to ‘The Sly’ Security Central to expand its features.
  • ‘The Sly’ Security System can be connected to ‘The Mighty’ Teleporter to protect the destination area of the Teleporter. The tenants of the Teleporter will also be able to use ‘The Sly’ Security System to add/ban people in their reserved area.

Attention

The Cube must be owned by the owner of the land. Alternatively, it can be deeded to the same group that owns the parcel.

Manual & Resources

  1. Rez the Cube wherever you want in your parcel.
  2. Rez one or more Cams near the areas you want to protect;
  3. If the parcel is deeded to a group, the Cube must be deeded to the same group. Learn how to deed it!
  4. Edit the configuration notecard in the content of each Cam (read well the included instructions and set the configuration parameters as you prefer);
  5. Save the notecard and reset the Cams when required by the script. Done!

The Security Cube must be owned by the same owner of the land where you rez the Security System. If you don’t own the land, the Security Cube can’t be activated and displays a red floating text: the Security System won’t eject the intruders.

Note: If a parcel is deeded to your group, you are not the owner of that land: it is group owned!

If the land is owned by another avatar: Just give the the Security Cube to the owner and ask them to rez it in the parcel.

If the land is deeded to a group: You have to deed the Security Cube to the same group. Learn how to deed it!

You can create a White list and a Black list through the configuration notecard of the Cam.

  • The “White list” is the list of the avatars that will never be ejected by the Security System;
  • The “Black list” is the list of the avatars that will always be ejected.

You will just need to create the two lists by writing one legacy name per line, as in the examples provided in the notecard. *

You can also use the pop-up menu of the Cam to add and remove up to 20 additional names to the White list and the Black list.
If you added one or more managers to the system (through the configuration notecard), they will be able to use the menu of the Cam to edit the White list and the Black list as well.

The names added to the Black list and the White list through the notecard can not be removed or changed through the menu.

If the security system is connected to ‘The Mighty’ Teleporter, you can give the tenant of the Teleporter the same ability of the managers, to add and remove names from the White list and the Black list. Read below for more info on how to connect ‘The Sly’ Security System to ‘The Mighty’ Teleporter.

* Legacy names are made of name + surname or name + “Resident”, for avatars without surname.
The only limit to the length of the two lists is the memory of the script of the Cam

The working mode of each Security Cam can be changed through the “MODE” button in their menu. The available modes are:

  • Normal: Everyone different from onwer and managers is ejected, unless whitelisted or member of the group.
  • Open: Everyone is welcome, unless blacklisted or underage.
  • Off: The Cam does not scan the area and nobody is ejected.

‘The Sly’ Security System ejects the avatars detected by the Cam(s), in compliance with the following rules:

  • Ownership and management: the owner and the managers of the Security Cam are never ejected.
  • Black list: if avatars are in the black list, they are ejected even if the Cam is in the “Open” mode, even if they have the safe group active and even if they are older than the minimum required age.
  • White list: if avatars are in the white list, they are not ejected even if they don’t have the right group tag or are younger than the minimum required age.
  • Age limit: if someone is younger than the minimum allowed age (Second Life age, not real life age!), they are ejected even if the Cam is in “Open” mode and even if they have the right group active.
  • Group membership: if someone has the right group active (and the Security Cam is properly configured and assigned to the group), they won’t be ejected even if they are not in the white list of the device.

Since v. 1.1, the Security System can be configured to automatically ban from the parcel the ejected avatars (the configuration notecard inside the Cam contains information on how to do it).
If you configured a permanent ban and want to allow again a banned avatar, you can:

  1. Open the properties of your land (the button may be placed and named in different ways, depending on the viewer you use);
  2. Click on the “Access” tab, then look for the box with the names of the banned people;
  3. Simply remove from the list the name of the banned avatar.

The Security Central:

  • Allows you to add avatars to the Black list or to the White list of all the connected Security Cams, with a few clicks;
  • Keeps your community safe: it can also be configured to let everyone, or a selected group of avatars, to “report” griefers which will automatically be banned after a certain number of reports.

Please refer to the manual of ‘The Sly’ Security Central to learn how to connect it to your Security System.

‘The Sly’ Security System can be connected to ‘The Mighty’ Teleporter.

Once you do that, ‘The Sly’ Security System scans the destination area of the Teleporter and ejects the intruders: no one will be able to stay at the destination area without renting the Teleporter. The tenants of the Teleporter are automatically added to the White list of the security system and you can configure the devices so that the tenants will also be able to use the menu of the Cam, to add people to their customized White list and Black list.

To connect the Security Cam to the Teleporter, you have to open the configuration notecard of ‘The Sly’ Security System and look for the parameter #TELEPORTER and set it to the name of the Destination of the Teleporter.
